A senior retriever who trekked 30 miles to return to pet parents who did not want her has now became a beloved member of a family with a famous last name.
Once known as Ma Kettle, Lady the Labrador Retriever– whose original pet parent passed away in 2012– thought that she had a forever home when she was adopted, but clashes with her new family’s other canine companions later led to life in a second adoptive family’s home. Lady’s dogged determination to find the family who had previously welcomed her into their hearts prompted the pooch to embark on her long walk, but upon reaching her destination Lady discovered that not only did her first adoptive family not want her back– neither did her second.
Finding herself at the Chautauqua County Animal Shelter in Sedan, Kansas, Lady’s luck was about to change, as news of her journey began to travel across the internet thanks to a Facebook post and an Examiner article.
Touched by the elderly dog’s tale, Wrigley chewing gum heiress, award-winning romance author and On the Wings of Angels Rescue founder Helen Rich Rosburg– who, the Tampa Tribune reports, had recently suffered the loss of her own senior Labrador Retriever, Granny– decided that she would help Lady turn the page to a new chapter in her life. Whisked away by a private jet, Lady has now embarked on the happily ever after she so deserves.
Sharing the happy news on her Facebook page, Rich Rosburg wrote: “Everyone, please stop worrying. This precious girl is coming to live with me. My assistant is flying to pick her up tomorrow. I’m currently out of town. but my arms will be wrapped around her on Saturday. And she will never be scared or lonely again!”
