Watch Rad Rovers at Texas Surf Dog Competition!

Why Hang Ten when you can Hang 16 or 18? Taking to their surfboards, dogs will transform into Moondoggies in the Ohana Surf & Skate Surf Dog Competition in Galveston, Texas on July 16, 2017.

Celebrating five years of “Fun, Fun, Fun” in the sun for our furry friends, approximately 30 canines who dream of being a canine Kelly Slater or Taylor Knox are expected to make a big splash as they compete in heats. Dogs who come in first, second and third place will win prizes as well as bragging rights as the event’s Big Kahunas.

When they aren’t watching rad Rovers showing off their mad skills on a surfboard, spectators on the sand can meet some totally tubular adoptable dogs who may not be riding the waves, but are hoping for a ride to a forever home! Pet parents can also let their own pooch play in a toy-filled “puppy sandbox” located in a shaded area to beat the heat. Hydrating stations for dogs will also be available.

The sports-loving Spots will shred the surf in support of their fellow pals with paws who may have experienced a wipeout in life, but are once again riding on the crest of a wave of excitement for happy days ahead thanks to the Galveston Humane Society, a non-profit which has been helping homeless dogs and cats find families to love since 1981.

Registration: $25 for each competing dog (Free admission to watch the event.)

When: July 16, 2017 from 8 a.m. – noon (First heat starts at 9 a.m.)

Where: 28th and Seawall, just three blocks away from The Historic Pleasure Pier in Galveston, Texas

An annual event since 2013, the following video showcases all the fun had by four-legged Frankies and Annettes during their day of play on the beach:
