Want a Peek Inside a Dreamy High-Tech Pet Shelter?

Want a peek inside a high-tech California pet shelter that just opened its doors–and provides a red carpet experience for its residents?

The California Dream of making The Golden State no-kill came one step closer from transforming from reverie into reality on June 24th as an enthusiastic pack of dog and cat lovers gathered in the city of Playa Vista to celebrate the grand opening of The Wallis Annenberg PetSpace.

A two-story, 30,000-square-foot facility named in honor of the philanthropist who helped to bring the center to life, The Wallis Annenberg PetSpace will care for up to 40 dogs, 40 cats and 100 homeless rabbits at any given time, all of whom have been pulled from Los Angeles area animal shelters (with many from the Downey shelter and Carson shelter in Gardena).

A center with a ‘clear’ vision, companion animals in roomy glass suites can easily be seen by potential pet parents who can learn more about the dog or cat they are looking with help from interactive flat screens by each suite that display each adoptable’s photo and vital information.

On behind the scenes tours, visitors will also be able to view dogs in the health area as they get their mane maintained in the grooming room, on vet checkups, and on work outs in the physical therapy and fitness area, all thanks to PetSpace’s literal idea of transparency.

Stars Show Support for the Paws Cause

Famous faces of both the two-and four-legged variety used their star wattage to shine a spotlight on the facility’s grand opening, among them actors Jimmi Simpson (Westworld, House of Cards) and Anne Lane (Dorm Life), who had the chance to meet the tail-wagging entertainment icon, Lassie:

Kim Matula (unREAL, The Bold and The Beautiful), who took a turn on the human hamster wheel:

Comedic canine Stella and celebrity magnet Marnie became fast friends with Wallis Annenberg, the CEO of The Annenberg Foundation:

Katherine Schwarzenegger struck a pose with high-profile pup Tuna of Tuna Melts My Heart fame:

A few high-profile pals of those with paws stepped in front of a camera with their rescue dogs for a PetSpace promotion of the option of pet adoption, including Academy Award winner Charlize Theron and her two canine companions Barkeley and Johnny, Kristen Bell and her barking buddy Lola, and True Blood star Stephen Moyer and one of his four-legged friends.

Adoptables at The Wallis Annenberg PetSpace

Of course, the true stars of the day were the adorable adoptables who are hoping to land a coveted role in the life of a loving pet parent. Living the 90210 lifestyle while in the 90094 zip code, the resident Rovers waiting to be adopted will enjoy their stay in cageless dog suites complete with their own TV to help them grow accustomed to the sounds of home life, and they can get to know potential pet parents in an interactive adoption suite or in the spacious Barks & Rec outdoor yard.

Open Wednesday through Sunday, the Wallis Annenberg PetSpace is located at 12005 Bluff Creek Drive in Playa Vista, California.
