We love visiting dog-friendly pumpkin patches with our dogs, and for the past several years we’ve visited the dog-friendly Elgin Christmas Tree Farm. As soon as the weather turns cooler, we’ll be taking Tiki and Barli to the farm for Barli’s first visit. I know Tiki will help show him the ropes!
The farm is open during October for the annual fall fun event with some great photo opportunities, not only to grab a fall photo but to think ahead for a family holiday shot, which we’ve done several years at the farm:
One year, Tiki and Irie enjoyed a tour of the farm on the hayrides:
And you can’t miss the mazes!
Tiki always loves to see the many farm animals as well:
I’ll bring you photos from this year’s visit later in the month. I’m excited to introduce Barli to the fun; he’s traveled with us to many different places in his first six months with us but this will be a different kind of fun for him! (Dare I hope to be wearing long sleeves by then?!)
Tips for Visiting a Dog-Friendly Pumpkin Patch
- Consider off days. We always visit the Elgin Christmas Tree Farm on a weekday rather than the busier Saturdays.
- Keep your dog on a fixed leash, not a retractable.
- Pick up after your dog. Always, always, always. I carry our Yucky Puppy bag everywhere so I’m not swinging a full poop bag until I reach the trash can.
- Do not let your dog urinate near pumpkins. If he does, purchase the pumpkin.
- Bring water and a collapsible bowl for your dog to use.
- Have fun and take a lot of photos! The photos we have taken through the years at the pumpkin patch are some of our most treasured.
