In the Animal Planet series It’s Me or the Dog Victoria Stilwell deduces the reasons for a rover’s unruly behavior, but in her just unleashed web series Arson Dogs the queen of canine comportment shines a spotlight on recruits of both the two-and-four-legged variety who are learning to sniff out the crime of arson fraud as fire scene investigative teams.
The multi-episode web series, which can be seen on Stilwell’s YouTube Channel or in the Positively Media Center of her recently redesigned Positively.com website, follows eight young arson dogs-in-training and their handlers in the State Farm Arson Dog Program.
“Like most people, I did not know too much about what arson dogs did or how they worked, but witnessing the awesome power of these amazing dogs’ sense of smell and watching the strength of the bond and level of communication between the handler and dog was truly inspiring,” Stilwell stated. “After just scratching the surface learning about what these unique teams do on a daily basis, I knew right away that I wanted to bring greater awareness and appreciation of their work to my audience and beyond.”
Stilwell was inspired to produce the program upon learning that lead trainer Paul Gallagher utilizes reward-based and force-free dog training techniques. “The idea that stronger, more driven dogs need a heavier hand in training is something that I’ve spent my career trying to debunk, so I am thrilled to show our audience the true power of positive training with even these Ferraris of the dog world.”
Established in 1993, the State Farm Arson Dog Program currently has close to 350 teams across the U.S.
