Our Trip to Canyon of the Eagles

We’ve done a LOT of book signings through the years at a wide variety of venues: bookstores, festivals, trade shows, expos, newcomers’ clubs, you name it. But this past weekend we had the opportunity to do a book signing at Canyon of the Eagles, a unique resort located northwest of Austin on the shores of Lake Buchanan. This signing was extra special because it was part of the resort’s Dog Days of Summer, a month of special dog events every Saturday in August.

We decided to arrive a day early and enjoy the resort with Irie and Tiki. The property, located in a Lower Colorado River Authority park, is really a getaway because it’s literally located at the end of the road:

The resort, especially popular with birders and hikers, is comprised of multi-unit cabins. Some end units, like ours, had private porches…

…while others had a shared porch that’s fenced and perfect for dogs…

And our dogs’ favorite part of our room? Tiki’s was the cool concrete floor…

…and Irie’s was the window seat with the view of Lake Buchanan…

The resort is home to the Overlook Restaurant. It has a large patio; we walked downhill and around the restaurant to reach the patio. We were surprised no other dog families were dining on the patio but Irie and Tiki were happy to have the attention of the dog-loving waitstaff all to themselves!

That night, the resort was showing movies under the stars. Irie and Tiki put on their lit collars and we sat out to watch movies…

The fire pit was also ready for anyone who wanted to make s’mores…

But the best treat was watching the supermoon!

The next morning, after breakfast at the Overlook, we headed to our book signing, directly in front of the lobby building…

Irie and Tiki had a great time greeting everyone coming to the resort (including the campers and RVers who come to check in at the resort before heading off to the camping portion of the park). We talked to many pet lovers about pet travel, signed copies of our DogTipper’s Texas with Dogs book as well as The Healthy Hound Cookbook, and handed out goodie bags with bookmarks, treats, and special coupons from our sponsors.

Irie and Tiki give Canyon of the Eagles a big paws up for a great stay!
