Game show host Todd Newton, who is currently awarding prizes to winning contestants in the fifth season of The Hub’s Family Game Night, has won the admiration of dog devotees for using his star wattage to shine a spotlight on companion animals across the country who hope to win the hearts of a forever family.
Helping to focus attention on the need to end the daily euthanization of more than 9,000 dogs and cats in U.S. shelters across the country, Newton is the latest famous friend of Fidos and felines to step in front of the camera with a rescued canine or cat companion for Best Friends Animal Society’s Save Them All photo campaign. Previous animal-loving luminaries who have struck a pose with a rescued pet for the paws cause include Dancing with the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba and her charming Chihuahua, Peanut (who was adopted by the renowned choreographer at Best Friends Animal Society Los Angeles); actress Denise Richards and one of the dogs who play a leading role in her life, Scooter; Nils Lofgren of the E Street Band and his band of rescue dogs, and Indy Car Series driver Josef Newgarden, who has been driven to help homeless animals since he adopted his cat, Simba.
A proud pet parent to rescued rover Emi, the Emmy Award winner stated: “Like animals often do, Emi rescued me. Our spirits connected in an instant and now our family is complete. I am so grateful to the staff at NKLA and to the wonderful souls at Best Friends Animal Society for bringing us together and for allowing me to play even a small part in Saving Them All. There is no greater mission.”
Since its start in 1984, Best Friends Animal Society has become a leading force in the no-kill movement, helping to reduce the number of companion animals who lose their lives in the U.S. shelter system from 17 million to 4 million each year.
