Locating Breed-Specific Assistance Programs

Earlier this year, we wrote about asking for assistance in paying for veterinary bills by contacting pet-related non-profits. Although funds are tight these days, they are one option to help meet necessary veterinary costs. (We also wrote about financing your dog’s surgery with more places for possible assistance and loans.)

If your dog is a purebred, there are also additional breed-specific programs that can help provide assistance with the cost of veterinary care. Each group has specific rules so check your group’s website for details.

If you don’t see an assistance program for your dog’s breed, check the American Kennel Club website for contacts for breed groups that can steer you toward appropriate assistance groups. Breed assistance groups include:
