This community was settled by English, German, Bohemian and Czech immigrants, many of whom came to the country in the 1850s and 1860s to avoid Austro-Hungarian oppression. Today the town is a quiet farming and ranching community located on busy I-10.

Flatonia Murals. Look for the scenic murals and a mini park depicting the town’s rail history. South Main St.
Flatonia Photo Pavilion. Flatonia holds a special place in the hearts of train buffs and is a favorite for rail lovers to watch trains. This elevated, open-air pavilion, located by the cross rails, provides a safe place for train viewing. Penn St. and Main St.
Railroad Tower. Train buffs also can enjoy a look at the old Railroad Tower, one of the longest-standing switch towers in the state. The switch was manually operated until 1997, controlling the North-South, East-West cross rails. The surrounding park makes a nice, shady place for a dog walk or a picnic. Downtown at Main St.
