Surf Dog Ricochet Helps California Shelter

She may be accustomed to surfing the waves on the sea, but on August 6, 2011 Surf Dog Ricochet rode a wave of altruistic enthusiasm all the way to Ventura County Animal Services to help adoptable dogs and cats during the kick-off of the Camarillo, California’s participation in the ASPCA $100K Challenge.

A combined passion for surfing and service has proven to be a golden opportunity for the Golden Retriever to raise awareness and funds for human and paws causes, and since late 2009 Ricochet has raised more than $100,000 for 150 causes. The kind-hearted canine continued her efforts to help the option of pet adoption when she took part in a paparazzi magnet-filled afternoon at Ventura County Animal Services.

One of 50 shelters across America hoping to win $100,000 (which would be used for much-needed medicine for the animal hospital and new cat accommodations) the Camarillo site needs to find forever homes for 1,780 orphaned pets over the next three months.

Thanks to the presence of high-profile animal lovers such as Ricochet (who won the title of DogTipper’s Dog of the Year in 2010), True Blood star Michelle Forbes (seen in the photo at the top of the page), That’s So Raven’s Orlando Brown (seen in the photo above), Jackson Galaxy from the Animal Planet series My Cat from Hell, D Cups Saving Tea Cups and The Jason Heigl Foundation, 37 dogs, 8 cats and 10 rabbits and “pocket pets” were adopted during the event’s kick-off.

The August 6th event was a return visit to the shelter for Ricochet, who became fast friends with some fellow famous fans of Fidos and felines as they stepped in front of the camera for a series of pet adoption PSAs, including Michelle Forbes, Orlando Brown and former Playboy Playmate Devin Devasquez, who used her star wattage to benefit the shelter’s bunnies.
