Surf City Surf Dog Competition Helps Dog Charities

SurfThe calendar may say that summer 2014 has slipped away, but don’t tell that to the totally tubular tail-waggers who are getting ready to ride the waves for a paws cause at the 16th annual Petco Surf City Surf Dog event.

Taking place from September 26 – 28 at Huntington Dog Beach, hot doggies Moondoggies from as far away as Florida, Canada and Brazil will compete in the Shredder/pro heat, four weight-class divisions and a tandem heat to determine which Rovers rule the waves.

Along with the surfing showdown, the following activities will make a big splash with attendees over the course of the three-day event:

On September 26th at The Shorebreak Hotel families people and pets can enjoy Yappy Hour complete with the chance for pet parents and their pups to strike a pose on the red carpet; celebrate the start of the canine competition with an opening ceremony, and cheer for the fashion forward Fidos who will show off their sense of style in the PAWabunga Costume Contest.

On September 27th attendees can dive into the history of dog surfing at the International Surfing Museum’s exhibit; applaud the athletic ability of our barking buddies at the International Surf Dog Walk of Fame induction ceremony, and end the day by watching dog surfing movies.

The final day of competition will also include a Canine Expo and the “I and Love and You” Awards/closing ceremony.

A happening with heart, a portion of the proceeds from each competing dog’s entry fee benefits Barks of Love, Huntington Dog Beach, French Bulldog Rescue, Southern California Bulldog Rescue, Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue and Westie Rescue of Orange County. So take your cue from a classic Jan and Dean tune and say “Surf City, here we come!”

When: September 26 – 28, 2014

Where: Huntington Dog Beach, Pacific Coast Highway at Goldenwest Street in Huntington Beach, California (Additional activities take place at The Shorebreak Hotel at 500 Pacific Coast Highway, Huntington Beach and at the International Surfing Museum at 411 Olive Avenue in Huntington Beach, California)
