For dog lovers who grew up reading and watching the antics of Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy and other iconic characters from the popular Peanuts comic strip, happiness is a warm puppy…and a trip to view the Snoopy sculptures of Santa Rosa, California.
Charles M. Schulz, who sketched every storyline for the popular pack of pals, lived in the capital city of Sonoma County for more than three decades, and the citizens of Santa Rosa have celebrated the city’s link to the pop culture legend with a series of Peanuts sculptures.
Along with official bronze depictions are fiberglass sculptures which were customized by artists in the area. Although many have been auctioned off, several statues of various members of the Peanuts gang can be spotted at sites throughout the city.

Snoopy at Charles M. Schulz- Sonoma County Airport
Traveling Snoopy fans who have watched the beloved beagle take off on flights of fantasy as one of his alter egos can spot the tail-wagging World War One flying ace before embarking on a journey from the Charles M. Schulz- Sonoma County Airport.
The cartoon canine with his head in the clouds also appears on the airport’s logo, soaring through the sky on top of a doghouse that has transformed into a Sopwith Camel thanks to a dog’s imagination.
Snoopy at Snoopy’s Home Ice
Charles M. Schulz was a frequent visitor at the Redwood Empire Ice Skating Arena (also known as Snoopy’s Home Ice), which he bought in 1969.
The cartoonist would often grab a bite to eat at The Warm Puppy Cafe, where his usual table is on display.
During a visit to Snoopy’s Home Ice, fans can mull over unique Peanuts paraphernalia in Snoopy’s Gallery, purchase Peanuts collectibles at The Gift Shop, and take a turn around the rink, just as Schulz was often seen to do.
Located close to the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center, visitors will spot a sports-loving Snoopy inside while a dapper depiction of the famous dog welcomes visitors outside…

Serving up a slice of nostalgia along with their made from scratch pizza pies, Mary’s Pizza Shack in Sonoma is now home to a Blues Brothers-inspired sculpture of Snoopy and his fine feathered friend, Woodstock.

If you are looking to pack a picnic lunch to enjoy while sightseeing in Santa Rosa, stop by G& G Supermarket, where a grocery-sacking depiction of everyone’s favorite comic strip dog meets customers:
Everyone knows that Snoopy is the hippest hound around, so it comes as no surprise that a “Joe Cool” statue resides outside Chop’s Teen Club. The Railroad Square recreational facility offers adolescents access to a recording studio, art studio, gym, cafe, climbing wall, tech lounge and a nightclub.
There is an old saying which states “Make new friends, but don’t forget the old. One is silver, the other is gold.” In the case of the official Snoopy and Charlie Brown statue at Santa Rosa’s Depot Park in Railroad Square, their forever friendship was cast in bronze by sculptor Stan Pawlowski.
If you are contemplating the idea of savoring a cup of joe, let your train of thought take you to Railroad Square, where a conductor-clad Snoopy welcomes coffee lovers to A’roma Roasters.

Visit the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center
No visit to Santa Rosa would be complete without a stroll through the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center.
Open every day from Labor Day through Memorial Day (except for Tuesdays and major holidays), inside the salute to the king of comics fans can see:
- the drawing board on which he drew almost every panel of the Peanuts comic strip
- a nursery room wall from a Colorado Springs home which features some of the early illustrations by Schulz of Snoopy and Charlie Brown
- Peanuts specials and documentaries, and much more.
Before walking through the museum doors for your walk down Memory Lane, stop outside for a snapshot by a sculpture of Snoopy snoozing atop his doghouse– no doubt dreaming of taking down The Red Baron or completing his great American novel.
