As the old adage states, every picture tells a story, and for homeless animals a good shelter photo can help their story end with “and they lived happily ever after.”
Knowing that a flattering photo increases a Fido or feline’s chances of finding a forever family, famed photographer Seth Casteel (Underwater Dogs) has joined with John Paul Pet, the Petfinder Foundation, The Animal Rescue Site and GreaterGood.org to create One Picture Saves A Life, which will teach grooming techniques and shelter photography lessons to shelter staff, volunteers and the public.
Among the doggedly devoted individuals shining a spotlight on the One Picture Saves A Life is Pit Boss star Shorty Rossi. Always “suited and booted,” the Animal Planet personality compares the need for a pleasing online pet picture to that of putting your best face forward when applying for a job.
Six animal shelter workshops with photographer Seth Casteel are currently scheduled, starting at St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center in Madison, New Jersey on April 27th. At every stop, the award-winning photographer will offer a free half-day workshop for anyone who wants to learn how to take a better pet photograph. (Space is limited and early registration is suggested.)
Besides the public workshop, Casteel will offer a second half-day program for regional shelter and animal rescue groups to help them improve their photography. Besides one-on-one training on everything from getting a dog to look its best to how to photograph a black cat, participating animal groups will receive a digital camera, lens, photo editing software, John Paul Pet grooming products, and other gifts from the One Picture Saves A Life sponsors.
Can’t make it to a workshop? The One Picture Saves a Life website also offers grooming an photography tips in the Learning Center section.
