Nothing says autumn like pumpkin–but we all know it’s a great food for our dogs year around. One of the easiest (and most appreciated!) ways to serve it is as pumpkin dog ice cream — a super simple recipe that you can even share with your dog!
Right now autumn harvest seems far in the future but just recently I found a pumpkin plant blooming in the woods. It was a complete surprise because we hadn’t planted it; late last fall, we smashed an old pumpkin in the woods for the deer to enjoy. We must have chosen a good spot because the plant seems to be thriving:
Maybe we’ll have some pumpkins this fall!
You don’t have to wait until pumpkin season to enjoy this easy recipe for Pumpkin Dog Ice Cream, though!
This recipe can’t be much simpler and involves nothing more than pumpkin puree, low-fat yogurt (plain) and organic peanut butter. Mix them in your blender or mix by hand, if you like.
You can make your own pumpkin puree or purchase canned pumpkin (don’t buy pie filling, though…it contains additional sugars and spices). I’m about to make a quick batch for a cool treat tomorrow afternoon!
