When you take into account price, preparation time, and popularity factor, I think I might have just stumbled up on the best frozen treat ever: Chicken Liver Popsicles–or make that Pupsicles!
Several of our recipes call for boiling chicken liver.
Boiling is a great way to prepare chicken liver if you are a little squeamish about handling raw liver–all your do is drop the liver, juices and all, into a pan of water and boil.
Our Doggie Chopped Liver recipe and Freeze Dried Chicken Liver recipes both involve boiling chicken liver.
You see a “froth” on the top of the water as the blood in the liver boils. I stir this back into the broth for added flavor.
When I boil chicken livers, I reserve the broth, freeze it in plastic cups and, voila, it becomes Chicken Liver Sicles!
You can also freeze the broth to use in place of water (or regular chicken broth) in other dog treat recipes as well.
Tiki, who is usually not a big fan of frozen treats, gave it four paws up!
(It was so good she could not just enjoy it on the porch, where it could have stayed free of leaves, but instead ran into the woods so she was in no danger of having to share her “ice cream”…)
