Review: Make Dogs Your Life, Lesson 6

Ahh, this week’s lesson in the Make Dogs Your Life course for dog trainers was on one of my favorite topics: puppies.

Not only are puppies cuter than cute (that goes without saying) but I also love writing and talking abut puppies. Helping dog lovers during that small window of puppyhood can make all the difference in how successful that cute ball of fur will be as he transitions from a puppy into a dog. Irritations, left unchecked during puppyhood, lead to major problems once the puppy is no longer so small and so cute. Sadly, those problems lead way too many puppies to shelters as they grow into adolescents.

Like all the other lessons in this course, I found Fernando Camacho’s guidance right on target in this lesson as he talked about working with puppies, starting with the vital importance of puppy socialization.

And, as with other weeks in this course, this puppy lesson included both a video segment and written materials. This week’s written materials were extensive including a syllabus for teaching puppy kindergarten classes, the AVSAB Position Statement on Puppy Socialization, and much more.

I’m looking forward to putting my new puppy knowledge to use when readers have questions about their puppies.
