DogTipper Review: We love our dogs and taking care of them is as rewarding as it is necessary. But, let’s face it, some dog-related chores are more rewarding than others. One of our least favorite jobs is cleaning up their waste from the yard. It’s surprising how much two mid-sized dogs can produce. So, we are always on the lookout for a way to make the job easier and quicker.
The Clean Response Swivel Bin & Rake from Petmate promises to be an efficient system for removing waste from the yard and patio. As the name implies, it consists of a rake and a container, both made of heavy-duty plastic, with long handles and padded grips to minimize stooping.
The bin is similar in design to those industrial dustpans and swivels to allow it to conform to ground contours. The bin is sized to accept an ordinary plastic grocery bag as a liner; two strategically located hooks hold the bag’s handle loops. The bin can also be used without a bag and hosed out when the job is finished. The tools snap together for compact storage.
We were glad to receive a Clean Response Swivel Bin & Rake for review. Our yard is a pretty good test because it is a fairly irregular surface with bare areas as well as grassy ones. And, as noted above, we have a goodly supply of dog waste to practice on.
The two poles come unassembled but threading them together was quick and easy, no tools required. It took just a moment to slip an old plastic bag over the bin and hook it into position:
So, implements at the ready, we marched outdoors to try it out.
We tried scooping in several different areas of the yard and were able to do a pretty good job everywhere except in the tallest grass (we really need to mow again!) where it took a little more manipulation to coax the waste onto the scoop. And, as you might expect, dried waste was much easier to corral than fresh. All in all though, the Clean Response did a first class job with not much effort. When done, we just unhooked the grocery bag, tied it shut and dropped it in the trash. We found that the rake did need a quick blast with the garden hose before we put it away.
We give a paws up to the Clean Response Swivel Bin & Rake!
The Petmate Clean Response Swivel Bin and Rake sells for about $30.
