Back in March, I wrote about a dinosaur balloon that Tiki found snagged in a tree in the woods. Probably a birthday balloon gone astray, the remains of the helium balloon caused Tiki a lot of anxiety (which is very unusual for her). With the help of some snake tongs, we retrieved the balloon from the tree and decided we’d make a walking trail through that part of the woods and that we’d name it Dinosaur Trail.
Well, a record drought stalled out those plans; the super dry conditions meant it was unsafe to run a chainsaw in the woods plus there was no way to get rid of the brush we needed to cut.
But finally, finally rains have come to Texas. It hasn’t been anywhere what’s needed to make up for the two feet of missed rainfall this year, but we’re all able to exhale for a while. One of the first things we did was to work on completing Dinosaur Trail and this week we were finally able to walk Irie and Tiki on our new trail!
The balloon is long gone but just off the trail Tiki found something equally interesting…a mysterious den (maybe home to an armadillo??)
Today we got to burn the brush we’d cleared and the dogs enjoyed warming up beside the fire…
We’re looking forward to enjoying a lot of walks on Dinosaur Trail!
