They may be going for the gold on different teams at the 2014 Winter Olympic games, but regardless of who receives a medal in Sochi the members of the St. Louis Blues already have hearts of gold for helping pets in need.
On March 16, 2014 Alex Pietrangelo (who was chosen for the Canadian Olympic ice hockey team), Patrik Berglund (who will play for Sweden), Valdimir Tarasenko (representing Russia during the games) and U.S. team players Kevin Strattenkirk and David Backes will be among the sports greats who will gather for a celebration of the Olympic spirit at the Stars of Sochi event in support of Backes’s charity, Athletes for Animals.
Taking place at Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse in St. Louis, Blues buffs will have the chance to pose for a picture with the players, place bids on Olympic memorabilia that will only be available at the event, sip cocktails and sample tasty treats, all for a paws cause.
Established in 2013 by St. Louis Blues captain David Backes and his wife Kelly, Athletes for Animals is a non-profit which offers financial assistance to rescue organizations, promotes the option of adoption and educates the public about responsible pet guardianship.
