The skilled Spots who won the seventh season of America’s Got Talent are now winning the admiration of doggedly devoted movie lovers for their acting abilities in the short film, Le Sauvetage (The Rescue).
Produced by Peter McEvilley, the filmmaker and composer whose credits include Alias, The House Bunny and Last Vegas, the six-minute flick tells the tale of a pair of Parisian pups who make the decision to adopt a human, and how their love for their person prompts them to find a forever friend for their two-legged chum.
The theme of rescue is close to the hearts of the movie’s dog stars. Many of the Olate Dogs are rescues, and the dog troupe’s founder Richard Olate– who saved stray dogs from the streets of Chile as a child and trained them for roles in his amateur show– continues to save dogs from shelters and offer them new leases on life as entertainers who raise the spirits of spectators as they raise awareness of the joys that a rescued dog can bring.
Le Sauvatage will open the Sonoma International Film Festival in Sonoma, California on April 2nd, and will include an appearance by the tail-wagging thespians, who can also be seen during the festival’s children’s program on April 5th.
While the charming mini-movie offers film fans food for the soul, its debut will also generate food for homeless dogs. Thanks to Freekibble.com and Ellen DeGeneres’s natural pet food company, Halo, Purely for Pets– which sponsored and produced Le Sauvatage— Pets Lifeline (a local animal welfare organization in Sonoma) will receive a 10,000 meal donation of Halo’s Spots Stew.
