NHL Star Alexander Steen Helps Stray Rescue of St. Louis

Steen_Matching_Grant_f2Offering an assist to homeless companion animals, Alexander Steen– the alternate captain for the St. Louis Blues– is helping a Missouri-based rescue organization reach its goal of creating a better tomorrow for cats and dogs who are in dire need of medical attention.

The NHL star and his girlfriend Josefine Olson have teamed up with Stray Rescue of St. Louis for a gift challenge, with the couple matching donations up to a total of $10,000 for The Stracks Fund. Named in honor of an abused dog who was facing his fate in the street before he was saved by Stray Rescue of St. Louis, the emergency medical fund helps to provide much needed care for dogs and cats who have been abused, injured or suffer from neglect.

Speaking out about Stray Rescue of St. Louis’s efforts, Steen– who became a board member of the rescue group in February 2013– stated: “I imagine a day when animal abuse no longer exists in St. Louis, and Stray Rescue is taking very concrete steps towards making this dream a reality.”

Steen follows in the footsteps of fellow athlete Tim Ream. Currently a central defender for the Bolton Wanderers soccer team in England, the St. Louis native and his wife also rallied for the paws cause with a gift challenge for The Stracks Fund.
