Country crooner Miranda Lambert, who rose to the top of the Billboard charts with her single “The House That Built Me,” has not only opened up her own home to six shelter/stray dogs, but through MuttNation Foundation, has helped shelter pets find forever homes of their own.
“Don’t forget, love a shelter pet”
Like Bob Barker’s “Help control the pet population. Have your dog or cat spayed or neutered,” “Don’t forget, love a shelter pet” has become Lambert’s signature send off when connecting to fans via her blog or saying so long after a concert. More than merely a catch phrase, the singer has stood by her words, as MuttNation Foundation’s mission is to help to reduce the euthanasia rate of healthy animals, provide funding for spay and neuter programs, increase pet adoption and train therapy pets through donations and benefit events (such as the annual Cause for the Paws concert) which raise thousands for animal rescue sites. (In the video below, see a WEAU interview with Miranda Lambert at Country Jam, where she helped to raise money for Bob’s House of Dogs.)

Lambert’s Coterie of Canines and Kitties
Little Cher is the latest canine to consider Miranda Lambert her Momma. Adopted from PAWS in Ada, Oklahoma, the tiny teacup Chihuahua has gone from living life in a dumpster to lapping up the limelight with a trip to the ACM Awards. When not staying with the mother of Lambert’s fiance Blake Shelton, Cher shares a home with the other members of the country’s singer’s menagerie– her dogs Delilah, Delta, Jessie, Steve and Waylon, and cats Maxine, Shelley and Susie Q.
An accessory in aid of our four-legged friends
The MuttNation logo symbolizes the pups that have left a pawprint on the singer’s heart, and now fans can don the design and raise awareness of homeless Rovers through the purchase of a limited edition necklace designed by the award winner for Pennyroyal Silver. In the first four weeks of availability, proceeds from the jewelry raised $5,062 for MuttNation Foundation.
