A star of stage, screen and song helped homeless canines and cats in the L.A. area land starring roles in the lives of loving pet parents at the second NKLA Adoption Weekend.
Stepping up to the mic alongside co-emcee Robert Kovacik from NBC4, actress/animal advocate Maria Conchita Alonso used her star wattage to shine a spotlight on some of the adorable adoptables from the more than 40 shelters and rescue organizations which participated in the “Super Adoption” event.
A total of 396 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens found forever homes at the two-day adopt-a-thon– including Bella, a fortunate feline who has found a place in the heart and home of the three-time Grammy-nominated entertainer!

Along with Maria Conchita Alonso, other animal-loving luminaries promoted the option of adoption at the event, including former NYPD Blue cast member Charlotte Ross, Maggie Q from The CW series Nikita; The Cat Whisperer Mieshelle Nagelschneider and NCIS: Los Angeles star Miguel Ferrer, who told Best Friends: “When I first heard about the NKLA mission, I thought it was a beautiful, but impossible dream. Right now more than 70 different NKLA coalition partners are working together to put a stop to the killing of dogs and cats in L.A. shelters, so that dream is becoming a reality.”
NKLA (No-Kill Los Angeles) is a Best Friends Animal Society initiative striving to end the euthanization of healthy and treatable companion animals in L.A.’s city shelters by 2017.
