Stars from the worlds of sports and song stepped up to the plate to help pitch the option of pet adoption as they threw out the honorary first pitches at the 11th annual Dog Days of Summer game, hosted by Petco.
Before the San Diego Padres faced the Seattle Mariners, hundreds of baseball buffs and their buddies who bark also had the chance to cheer for Lil Jon (the rapper who recently took the single “Turn Up for What!” to the top of the charts) and 10-time X Games gold medalist Bucky Lasek (who starred alongside his rescued Rover for a Petco “Think Adoption First” video) as they joined fellow devotees of dogs at a “Tail” Gate Party. The Fido-themed fete included a pet/pet parent lookalike contest, a Padres Spirit contest, a Best Pet Trick contest and the opportunity for pups to promenade with their parents in a parade on the infield.
Along with major league players running for home plate on the playing field, the game also gave adorable adoptables from the San Diego Humane Society and Labradors and Friends the opportunity to find forever homes.
By throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at the Petco Dog Days of Summer game, Lil Jon and Bucky Lasek have followed in the footsteps of other famous pals of those with paws, including Olympic silver medalist Gus Kenworthy and Uggie, the canine star of the Academy Award-winning motion picture The Artist.
