This morning we had the unique opportunity to attend a press conference on the south steps of the Texas State Capitol in Austin. The occasion for the press conference? Kinky Friedman, singer, songwriter, novelist, and one-time gubernatorial candidate himself, was endorsing Woodrow for Governor.
Woodrow, a former homeless dog, now has his own website and is working to raise money for the city’s homeless animals. Woodrow for Governor is a fundraising project for the nonprofit Austin Pets Alive!.
Friedman, who operates Utopia Animal Ranch, a rescue in the Texas Hill Country, is a longtime animal advocate.
In this clip from today’s press conference, Friedman recalls a tragic recent incident at the city shelter where a dog named Buddy was adopted but, before he could be released, was euthanized by mistake. Friedman also talks about Woodrow’s efforts to stand up for dogs like Buddy and you’ll hear Friedman’s own idea of heaven…with dogs, of course.

Kinky Friedman spoke on the south steps of the Capitol to media which included many of the area’s local television stations (and DogTipper, of course!)
Behind the podium, members of Austin Pets Alive! showed their support. The press conference was being filmed to create a television commercial for the nonprofit group.
After the press conference, Kinky spoke privately with Woodrow, perhaps sharing a little advice on campaigning for the job of Texas Governor.
