Kesha To Be Honored for Animal Advocacy Work

Dog devotees are singing the praises of a pop music superstar who will be honored at the 2013 Genesis Awards for using her voice not only to make chart-topping hits, but also to speak out on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves.

Humane Society International’s first Global Ambassador for animals, Ke$ha has used her star wattage to shine a spotlight on street dogs and dogfighting as well as Canada’s commercial seal slaughter, shark-finning, the trophy hunting of endangered lions and the need to make all make-up cruelty-free.

Following in the footsteps of other famous friends of all with fur, fins and feathers– such as Sir Paul McCartney, Hayden Panettiere, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, Kristin Davis and Ian Somerhalder– during The Humane Society of the United States’ annual benefit gala Ke$ha will receive the Wyler Award.

“It means so much to me to be recognized by The Humane Society of the United States because advocating for animals is second nature to me,” said Ke$ha. “My affinity with animals and the natural world inspires me and my music. I don’t understand how anyone can justify abusing or exploiting animals, and as long as it continues, I intend to keep talking about it.”

Tickets are now on sale for the 2013 Genesis Awards, a star-studded soiree which will be hosted by Dancing with the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba on March 23rd at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. Proceeds from the event will benefit HSUS’s Pets for Life, Chimps Deserve Better and Farm Animal Protection programs.
