Kate Upton, Justin Verlander to Host Grand Slam Pet Adoption in FL

Dogs who dream of the day when they can hear a pet parent say “Let’s play ball!” will get the chance to meet potential forever families when a major league baseball player and a supermodel go to bat for a paws cause prior to the first pitch of a Detroit Tigers’ spring training game.

For the third year fans of sports and Spots are invited to Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida for the Grand Slam Adoption Event. Once again the Fido-themed festivities will be hosted by two high-profile pet parents of rescued Rovers, Sports Illustrated cover model Kate Upton and her fiancé, Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers.

The Florida-raised supermodel who has gained fame by stepping in front of a camera will step up to the plate, so to speak, to pitch the option of pet adoption as she uses her star wattage to shine a spotlight on adorable adoptables from SPCA Florida. The non-profit organization, which annually unites more than 6,500 companion animals with someone special to love, will also receive proceeds from the event, along with K9s for Warriors, which offers a new lease on life to shelter dogs as service canines for military men and women suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and traumatic brain injury. Attendees will also get to meet military veterans and their service dogs and receive information regarding the organization’s vital work.

Along with the pet adoption event, dogs in need will also benefit from Grand Slam’s nationwide online silent auction, which will include celebrity memorabilia and autographed items.

  • Admission: Free ($10 for stadium parking)
  • When: March 18, 2017, from 11 a.m. until game time at 1 p.m.
  • Where: Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida

Supermodel Kate Upton is also a role model! Proving that a person’s true beauty comes from within, in the following video from Space Coast Daily the pup-loving pop culture phenomenon shows off adoptable dogs at a previous Grand Slam Pet Adoption event:
