He first gained fame for his rendition of The Doors’ hit “Light My Fire,” and now iconic singer/guitarist José Feliciano is using his voice to get dog devotees fired up about efforts to put an end to the puppy mill industry.
The platinum-selling recording artist with a heart of gold has stepped in front of the camera with his rescue dog Stella for a Last Chance for Animals PSA filmed by noted celebrity photographer Christopher Ameruoso. The video shines a spotlight on the plight of the more than two million puppy mill puppies who are sold in pet stores each year while four to five million companion animals face their fate in the U.S. shelter system annually because people did not heed the need to “Adopt, Don’t Shop.”
José Feliciano, who performed at Last Chance for Animals’ 2013 fundraising gala, is the latest in a long line of animal-loving luminaries who have taken part in the “Adopt, Don’t Shop” campaign. Others who have shown their support for the paws cause include Priscilla Presley, Sons of Anarchy star Ron Perlman, American Pickers star Mike Wolfe and Real Housewives of Miami cast member/Angels for Animals co-founder Joanna Krupa.
Founded in 1984 by Chris DeRose, Last Chance for Animals champions a number of animal rights issues ranging from pet theft to the struggle to stop the fur trade.
