The world may have lost singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett at summer’s end, but Parrotheads everywhere have a song in their heart today as the tropical rock crooner keeps the party going with a video for his song “Like My Dog.”
A proud pet parent to Ajax, Kingston, Kody, Lola, Pepper and Rosie, (who were listed among Buffett’s family members in the entertainer’s obituary), the “Margaritaville” singer lets his admiration for all of our buddies who bark shine in the Scott Emerick/Harley Allen-penned tune, which can be found on Buffett’s recently released album Equal Strain On All Parts.
Made in collaboration with the ASPCA, the video features the beloved tunesmith playing with his tail-wagging chums, as well as fans who sent in clips of fun times with their canines using the hashtag #LikeMyDog.
Promoting the option of adoption, the video ends with a message from the ASPCA, reminding the public that millions of dogs across the United States are waiting for a forever home.
“The dedication and humanity Jimmy Buffett put into his music crossed over into his love for animals, especially pets and wildlife,” said Matt Bershadker, ASPCA President & CEO. “This collaboration honors Jimmy’s legacy and animal advocacy and reflects our shared commitment to help vulnerable dogs find safe and loving homes.”
A fan of all with fur, fins and feathers, Buffett was a long-time promoter of animal rescue. In 2018, he helped to shine a spotlight on pet adoption at Southern Pines Animal Shelter in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Buffet’s love of sea animals was reflected in the efforts of the Save The Manatee Club, a nonprofit co-founded by Buffett and former U.S. Senator Bob Graham in 1981.
