The countdown’s on for the Fourth of July weekend. I have to say that I’m somewhat dreading the long weekend of fireworks. Since the holiday falls on Monday this year, the fireworks will start Friday and just keep on going…
Sadly the Fourth of July is one of the most dangerous days for your dog, a time when more dogs go missing than any other day of the year. The noise of fireworks–not to mention the hustle and bustle associated with holiday fun–means unsettled times for many dogs who bolt from homes and yards.
We hope you’ll take a moment to check your dog’s ID tag and collar NOW. Is the tag readable? Is it current? Is the collar secure? Even if your dog doesn’t usually wear a collar in the house, please consider one for this holiday weekend when it’s all too easy for a dog to suddenly bolt out a cracked door. (Frightened dogs have even been known to break through windows during fireworks displays.) And please leave your dog at home IN the house if you decide to attend a fireworks show.
