Wondering if your dog will be welcome in a Spirit Halloween store? The answer is no, unless your dog is a service dog.

Hello Lydia. Unfortunately, only service dogs are allowed in our stores.

If you need to shop for a Spirit Halloween costume, you’ll need to leave your dog at home then head to one of their many popup shops that are open just for the weeks leading up to Halloween and a few days afterwards–or shop their online store.

They do have a great selection of costumes for people and pets; a few years ago, I reviewed some of their Halloween costumes for dogs:

Wherever you buy your dog’s Halloween costume, remember that safety comes first. Don’t miss our tips on choosing a safe Halloween costume for dogs.

And remember: some dogs–Tiki, we’re looking at you–just don’t like clothing or costumes, period. Get in the Halloween spirit by just buying your dog a Halloween-themed dog collar or special bandana. Even if you’re participating in a dog-friendly Halloween parade, your dog will be looking spook-tacular!

Can I bring my service dog to Spirit Halloween?

Yes, a trained service dog that is required to assist you is allowed in any store location under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA):

Service animals are defined as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. Examples of such work or tasks include guiding people who are blind, alerting people who are deaf, pulling a wheelchair, alerting and protecting a person who is having a seizure, reminding a person with mental illness to take prescribed medications, calming a person with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) during an anxiety attack, or performing other duties. Service animals are working animals, not pets. The work or task a dog has been trained to provide must be directly related to the person’s disability. Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA.

However, the service dog has to be performing a service for the person shopping.

For example, if a husband has a service dog, a wife cannot take the service dog into the store by herself. The dog has to be with the person for whom he is a service dog.

@prinnova Remember Spirit Halloween is NOT pet friendly. Both dogs in these videos are task trained service dogs according to the ADA. #spirithalloween#servicedog#servicedoglife#halloween#foryoupage#fyp#servicedogsoftiktok#dogs#spooky#spookyseason ♬ drowning spears by oneboredjeu – Johnathon “NIGHTMÆR” Miranda
