ID Your Pet Day {Is Your Dog Tagged?}

More dogs go missing on July 4th than any other day of the year. ID Your Pet Day helps keep dogs safe by emphasizing the need for a readable, current ID tag and or a microchip.

ID YOUR PET DAY

The fourth of July holiday is just around the corner, and while people look forward to Independence Day as a time filled with family-oriented fun and fireworks, for our four-legged friends the fourth is faced by fear.

Frantically searching for safety from the sights and sounds of popping pyrotechnics, more pets become lost on July 4th than on any other date of the year.

When is ID Your Pet Day?

ID Your Pet Day takes place every year on July 1. This pet awareness day was created by the ASPCA.

Tips for Keeping Your Dog Safe

Before America’s annual birthday party, pet parents are urged to observe ID Your Pet Day,

Animal lovers can learn handy tips for keeping cats and canines safe with help from an ASPCA infographic which states that:

  • A cat or dog who wears a personalized ID tag is more likely to be returned to his or her home. Your furry friend should be fitted with a collar and an ID tag which displays your name and phone number.
  • In the event of a lost collar and ID tag, an implanted microchip is another method to ensure that you are reunited with a barking buddy or purring pal who has gone missing.

Take a few minutes to check your dog’s ID tag before the fireworks begin–and check your vet records for your dog’s microchip number. If you know that your dog is microchipped but you can’t find the number, swing by your vet’s office with your dog for a quick scan to get that number in your files and then make sure your contact information is current in the microchip record!
