Holby City Star Jules Knight Adopts Rescue Dog

Television viewers in the UK may know him as Doctor Harry Tressler in the medical drama Holby City, but since February actor Jules Knight has been playing the real life role of a foster pet parent to Honey, a Labrador Retriever mix from Battersea Dogs and Cat Home. Realizing that a dog’s unconditional love is the prescription to a happy life, the star has now cast the canine as a permanent member of his family.

Speaking about his new barking buddy, the actor stated: “I have always loved big dog breeds, including Labs, Retrievers and Great Danes. When I was younger I had a Retriever who would catch and return anything you threw at her. Honey can’t catch and she only retrieves about one in 20 balls we throw. But she’s the best snuggled in the world. Her speciality is love which she gives us 24/7.

“My favourite thing to do with Honey is actually to fall asleep next to her. She thinks she’s human most of the time and often sleeps with us on the bed, sometimes with her head on the pillow.

“It was love at first sight from the moment we saw her and we would encourage anyone thinking of getting a pet to come to Battersea and give a homeless dog or cat a second chance.”

Knight is just one of the many animal-loving luminaries who have adopted from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall welcomed two orphan Jack Russell Terriers named Beth and Bluebell into the royal family; Florence and the Machine lead singer Florence Welch found her meowing muse in Missus, a four-year-old tortoiseshell cat; Prunella Scales of Fawlty Towers fame adopted a purring pal called Hannah; a Patterdale Terrier mix puppy named Jackson has embarked on a new chapter in his life thanks to his pet parent, acclaimed children’s author Jacqueline Wilson; and Paul O’Grady, who shines a spotlight on adorable adoptables from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in the documentary specials For the Love of Dogs, is now a doting Dad to a Chihuahua mix named Eddie.

While Honey now has a forever home, there are approximately 400 canines and 250 cats being cared for on any given day at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home’s three adoption centers, which are located in South West London, Old Windsor, Berkshire and Brands Hatch, Kent. Helping pets in need since its founding in 1860, the renowned animal welfare organization recently launched an appeal to build new, state of the art kennels at the charity’s London location.
