Helping Your Dog Park Save Money

Share with fellow dog lovers!

In today’s tough economic times, everyone’s watching their budget…and that includes dog parks. This weekend we attended the Picnic with Your Pooch event in Georgetown, Texas; at the fundraiser for the city’s Bark Park, parks board member Mike Simpson spoke about ways dog lovers can help reduce costs for dog parks.

Although his tips were specific to Bark Park, they’re ones that you can apply to your favorite dog park as well to help save some much-needed money:

Bring your own waste bags.

Simpson recommended bringing your own bags–whether that means reusing plastic grocery bags or bringing inexpensive sandwich bags–rather than using the city-supplied waste bags.

How much will this save the park? Simpson reported that each waste bag costs the city between five and ten cents.

Help Pick Up.

Simpson reported that the Bark Park contracts out its mowing and recommended if park goers see items (whether dog toys or trash) that would slow down the job of mowers, that they pitch in and help pick up.

With a little extra effort, dog lovers everywhere can help save dog parks money in these difficult times–and ensure that their park serves the needs of dogs and their families for a long time to come.
