Getting Fit with Tagg, Week Five

In this last part of our Getting Fit with Tagg series, we take a look at traveling with Tagg. This week, we headed off on a day trip with Irie and Tiki to Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, a great hiking area about two hours from our home.

The night before, we charged the Tagg units so we’d be sure they were both fully charged…then off we went. The unit has a button so you can put your dog’s unit into “trip mode” for brief excursions to prevent receiving alerts that your dog has left the home zone. For this trip, however, we didn’t put the dogs in trip mode but allowed the alerts to come in. Also, if you’re traveling overnight, you can also take along the base unit (which also serves as a charger) and reconfigure the home zone to be your hotel room. (Tagg also sells a separate, smaller travel charger.)

As a state natural area, leashes were required throughout our trip…but it was still a HUGE weight off our shoulders knowing that, if one of the dogs should slip away from us on the trip, we could track them using the GPS tracker. That’s also a great comfort knowing that, if we should have a car accident and the dogs get loose, we could track them using our smartphones.

But one of the most fun aspects of Tagg was seeing the activity the dogs generated as they hiked around:

It was easy to see the impact that our day trip had on Tiki’s activity level:

She surpassed her target activity level–300 points–by a WIDE margin!

This past month, we’ve enjoyed reviewing Tagg both for its Activity Tracking feature and its GPS tracking. As we hit the road for our upcoming radio show on dog travel, I know that we’re going to be including Tagg in every trip we make! We’re happy to say that we’ll be extending our service subscription to Tagg for both of our dogs; this is a product we don’t want to be without, whether we’re at home or on the road.

Disclosure: We received a Tagg unit for each of our dogs for review; we were not paid for our review and all opinions are entirely our own.
