Firehouse Dog Smokey to Appear on Chicago Fire May 6

image009A firehouse dog will make an appearance in houses across the country when fans of the hit NBC series Chicago Fire tune in to the drama’s May 6th episode.

Garnering 51 percent of the vote in the Chicago Fire Top Dog Competition on Today, Smokey– a four-year-old Labrador Retriever from Jacksonville, Illinois– competed against more than 100 firehouse dogs to win both the coveted canine cameo and a visit to the set of the series.

Lapping up the limelight during a day complete with limousine transport to the Chicago Fire set, a deluxe winner’s basket and recognition plaque, and even having a director’s chair emblazoned with her name, Smokey’s turn as a celebrity alongside her fire-fighting friend Todd Warrick from Station 2 in Jacksonville was filmed on April 1st.

Although her fame may be fleeting, Smokey– who was saved from a house fire as a puppy– will always be a star in the eyes of Jacksonville area school children and the community thanks to her real life role performing civic duties like teaching safety techniques such as “stop, drop and roll.” (In October 2013 Smokey was honored for her efforts by the governor of the state of Illinois, who proclaimed October 11th to be “Smokey the Dog Day”.)

Tune in to see Smokey’s big moment on the small screen when her walk-on appears on Chicago Fire, May 6th at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
