As our regular readers know, I have asthma. With two dogs and four cats in the house, I am always looking for solutions to the problem of dust and dander in our home. While it’s extremely important to dust and vacuum weekly to help remove common allergy triggers such as dust mites, pollen and pet hair from your home and to use a damp cloth when dusting to trap dust, dusting and vacuuming alone won’t solve the problem. The allergens remain in the air.
That means you’ll need to filter the air to remove the particles that can trigger allergies. There’s a new air purifier on the market that’s of special interest to pet parents: the Febreze Air Purifier. The device features a powerful HEPA-Type filter that traps up to 99 percent of airborne particles such as dust, pollen, pet dander and odors.
We received a Febreze Air Purifier for an 85-square-foot room (they also make a larger unit for rooms up to 170 square feet). In a small- to medium-sized room, this circulates the air five times per hour, catching particles as small as 2 microns.
Along with filtering the air, the filter also works to freshen the scent of the room thanks to the Febreze Scent Cartridge. You can choose the level of scent (as well as the cleaning level) to create a fresh room…which we all know is important not only for our own comfort but especially when we have non-pet owning friends and family visiting our homes.
The Air Purifier works by drawing in stale (maybe not-so-fresh smelling) air with its fan. The tower-shaped air cleaner then runs the air through a carbon filter to trap both odors and the larger particles including pet hair and dander!
The air then continues its path through the Febreze Air Purifier into the HEPA-type filter to snag the smallest particles in the air (ones that I know personally can be toughest on allergy and asthma sufferers).
Finally, the tower adds the Febreze linen and sky scent to the filtered air before the air is released back into the room.
We’ve got a Febreze Air Purifier to give one lucky DogTipper and CatTipper reader! And for more information on the Febreze Air Purifier, visit www.febrezeairpurifiers.com or call (800) 477-0457.
