Evan Longoria, Carnival Cruise Line Help Pets in Need

As we say so long to summer DogTipper takes a look back at one of the boys of summer who, along with Carnival Cruise Line, helped to chart a course for a brighter tomorrow for dogs and cats in need earlier in the sweltering season:

Over the years baseball player Evan Longoria has literally gone to bat for the sake of companion animals who have been thrown a curve ball in life, donating $100 for each home run he scores during the MLB season to Pet Pal Animal Shelter. When the third baseman for the Tampa Bay Rays stepped on to a luxury liner to read the new Dr. Seuss book “What Pet Should I Get?” to a group of children he once again stepped up to the plate to help the St. Petersburg, Florida-based no-kill shelter.

Wearing a striped chapeau made famous by The Cat in the Hat, during the reading Longoria brought each line of the Dr. Seuss book to life for both the kids and adoptable canines from the SPCA. Once story time was over, everyone enjoyed a Green Eggs and Ham breakfast with The Cat in the Hat and his pals Sam I Am, Thing 1 and Thing 2.

To celebrate the special celebrity reading, Carnival Cruise Line is helping homeless animals start a new chapter in their lives not only by matching Longoria’s contribution to Pet Pal Animal Shelter for each home run he hits in the 2015 season, but by making donations to both the Tampa Bay and Louisiana chapters of the SPCA.

The following video from The Orlando Examiner turns viewers into virtual visitors aboard the Carnival Paradise in Tampa as Evan Longoria reads “What Pet Should I Get?”:
