Emmylou Harris Shines Spotlight on Homeless Dogs

A music icon is singing the praises of two homeless dogs who are hoping to land a permanent gig in a forever home.

Currently on tour to promote The Traveling Kind— her new album with Rodney Crowell– Emmylou Harris recently stepped away from the concert stage to help set the stage for a brighter tomorrow for Miss Twiggy and Jax, two of the canines in the care of Bonaparte’s Retreat, the multi-Grammy Award winner’s non-profit rescue organization.

Marking Best Friends Animal Society’s Back in Black promotion, which shines a spotlight on pets who sport ebony fur (a shade which, sadly, often makes adoptable dogs and cats overlooked by potential pet parents), in the following video the singer who penned the tune “Big Black Dog” in honor of her rescue dog Bella introduces fans of Fidos to Miss Twiggy, a one-year-old Lab/Greyhound who was pulled from Metro Nashville Animal Care and Control. Named after the famous 60s supermodel, Miss Twiggy is a true beauty who enjoys giving kisses, sitting in laps and playtime with both people and other dogs.

Like Miss Twiggy, Jax was also rescued from Metro Nashville Animal Care and Control by Bonaparte’s Retreat. Only nine-months old, Jax is part Labrador Retriever, part Spitz, and one hundred percent amazing! The attention he’s received since his rescue has helped him conquer the shyness he once felt in the shelter, and today Jax wants nothing more than to give love.

Named in loving memory of one of Emmylou Harris’s late canine companions, since 2004 Bonaparte’s Retreat has been offering new leases on life to dogs who are facing their fate in a Nashville kill shelter.
