DWTS Dancer Sharna Burgess Adopts Two Rescue Dogs

The coveted mirror ball trophy may have eluded her grasp so far, but professional dancer Sharna Burgess of Dancing with the Stars fame waltzed away with the hearts of dog lovers when she recently announced that she has adopted two rescue dogs.

Sharing the happy news with fans via Instagram, the proud new pet parent proclaimed: “So this happened today! I adopted 2 little ones from #lhasahappyhomes!!! I can’t say it enough, if you want a dog regardless of age or breed, please please adopt. There are countless beautiful souls just waiting to be loved, that deserve a chance at having a happy home. Puppy mills and breeders are such an unnecessary evil, everything you want is waiting for you in a shelter somewhere, waiting for you to save them.”

By choosing the option of pet adoption, Burgess follows in the footsteps of fellow Dancing with the Stars hoofer Mark Ballas, who welcomed into his heart and home a pup named Hendrix, who was adopted from the L.A. pet retail shop Bark n’ Bitches (which rescues dogs from high-kill shelters in Southern California). Dancing with the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba (who launched The Animal Project Foundation in 2012) also chose the option of pet adoption when she made Peanut, a charming Chihuahua from Best Friends Animal Society Los Angeles, a member of her fur family.

Daisy and Duke are just two of the more than 3,000 dogs who have received a new lease on life thanks to Lhasa Happy Homes, a non-profit rescue organization which has been saving and enriching the lives of Lhasa Apso, Shih Tzu, Maltese and small mixed breed dogs since its start in 2001. Rescuing dogs who are at-risk of facing their fate in L.A. area animal shelters, Lhasa Happy Homes offers dogs TLC through its network of fosters as they wait for the day when they meet their new, forever pet parent.
