Winter is coming…and we all know that cold weather can be tough on those of us with arthritis. And that includes our dogs. Could CBD help your dog’s arthritis?
This post is sponsored by Innovet. As always, we only share products with you that we use with our own pets!
Tiki has struggled with arthritis for several years now. It comes and goes, becoming more noticeable when she sits for long periods (and especially when she sits out on the porch, which she loves to do certain times of the day). We also notice it on long car rides when she’s sitting in one position for an extended time.
To help with arthritis pain, we’ve been trying CBD, hemp-based phytocannabinoid (CBD) oil. Innovet offers a range of hemp products, each formulated with 100% organic, full-spectrum phytocannabinoid obtained via cold CO2 extraction.
If you’re not familiar with CBD oil, this contains no THC, the part of the hemp that would provide psychoactive effects–so there’s no “high” from the product. As Innovet explains: Think of hemp and marijuana in the same way you think of grape juice and wine.
Last month we headed to South Texas for a nursing home visit with John’s relatives then a couple of days at the beach.
It’s a little over three hours to the nursing home from our house and, although we always make a pit stop halfway down, Tiki has a long time sitting in the car (even though it’s on an extra cushiony bed).
It was the perfect time to test out Innovet’s Hemp Dog Treats and Hemp CBD Capsules for Dogs. First up, treats.
These hard treats are available in three flavors:
- Steak and Cheese (these are the ones Tiki tried)
- Maple Bacon and Berries
- Salmon and Sweet Potato
Made especially for medium to large dogs like Tiki (Innovet also offers Soft Hemp Chews for small to medium dogs), these treats are made in the USA (and sold at a price lower than many other comparable treats we’ve seen on the market.)
We took the treats along on our trip; the hard treats traveled great (even in the heat) and were easy to carry to the beach…
Along with the treats, Innovet also offers capsules and oil. Formulated for dogs 40 pounds and up, the Hemp Organic CBD Oil Capsules are a great choice for dogs who don’t like the taste of CBD oil (Tiki, we’re looking at you!) It’s super easy to use because these capsules can be opened then sprinkled over your dog’s food.
Like the treats and all of Innovet’s hemp products, the capsules are made with organic hemp extract (100% free of pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides). For small dogs under 40 pounds, Innovet’s CBD Oil for Pets is the best option.
We love the effect we see in Tiki after CBD. About half an hour after a treat or capsule, we see her becoming more active, getting up with greater ease. I think I see an improvement in her mood as well; she seems more willing to join in a game of tug of war with Barli, and overall just more comfortable.
Many pet parents, in conjunction with their veterinarians, are turning to CBD and hemp products to help relieve the symptoms of arthritis, pain and more (even epilepsy!) We’d really recommend you talk with your vet about adding Innovet hemp and CBD products to your dog’s routine.
You’ll find more information about CBD–including a CBD Dosage Calculator–on the Innovet website. Innovet also has a very active CBD for Dogs & Cats, Pet Cancer, Pet Health and More Facebook group!

Should You Travel With CBD?
We love the ease of traveling with the capsules and treats–but we were traveling within the US.
If you are concerned about the legality of traveling with hemp products, Innovet explains, “When phytocannabidiol is derived from the seeds and stalks of an industrial hemp plant it is legal in all 50 states, just like any other essential oil such as lavender or peppermint.”
However, Innovet does not ship hemp products internationally and states on their website: “We will NOT ship ANY hemp products internationally, we will NEVER advise moving ANY hemp products across ANY international borders. That is at your own risk, should you decide to do so.”
