Like toddlers on a sizzling day, Sophie and Jasper can’t wait to cool off in the pool and frolic with their oh-so-favorite orange squid toy. Living in South Florida, it’s getting pretty steamy around here, and I’m always looking for ways to help them cool off.

My Martha Stewart Living antennae went up recently when I came across these delicious frozen dessert treats for dogs that not only taste yummy, but look pretty, too! (I can’t help myself!) J

The best part is they’re great for human kids, too! Easy to make, healthy and guaranteed to bring a smile (and some sloppy kisses from the fur kids), as they devour with delight.

 The Y/PB2

For those who might not understand, that’s the Yogurt, Peanut Butter & Banana dessert. This is a fave of my fur kids and me! Created by Utah.TodaysMama.com for her brood. We say thank you, Megan!

You’ll need:

  • a 32-oz container of yogurt, plain or vanilla. Watch for sugar content for both dogs and kids.
  • 1 large banana
  • 2-3 tablespoons of peanut butter (recommend the no added salt or sugar kind)
  • 1 tablespoon of honey

To prepare:

  • Put yogurt, banana, peanut butter and honey in a large bowl
  • Mix together and put into the blender
  • Mix well and put into an ice cube tray (for extra fun, especially for human kids, you can use trays with heart, star or other shapes)
  • Place in freezer for 10 minutes
  • It’s ready! For human kids, you can place a toothpick in each for easy eating. Put extras in a bowl in the freezer and have for whenever you want a cooling treat.

PB & Fruit Ice

I love this one, too. It takes longer to freeze, but will be well worth the wait. If you have big dogs, great, because it makes a sizable frozen dessert. Otherwise, it’s a great excuse for a summer doggy party! Alternatively, cut ingredients in half, use a smaller bundt mold or cut off portions of the frozen confection, as needed.

You’ll need:

  • Water
  • 1/2 cup Peanut Butter
  • 1 cup Chopped Fruit (they used strawberries)
  • 2 tablespoons Flax seeds

To prepare:

  • Blend the peanut butter and water and pour into the bundt or cake pan
  • Add chopped fruit and flax seeds
  • Allow to freeze for 4 to 6 hours before placing in the grass for your pups

Blueberry Frozen Dog Treats

Confections-blueberry

This berry delicious treat is another favorite of Jasper’s, because he loves all things blueberry. With only three ingredients, you’ll whip up a batch in a flash. Freezing takes a bit more time.

You’ll need:

  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons honey

To prepare:

  • Puree all three ingredients in a food processor
  • Spoon mixture into ice cube trays
  • Freeze for at least six hours.

Note: If treats do not release from ice cube tray by tapping on countertop, run the bottom of the tray under hot water for several seconds to help loosen the treats.

If fruit, peanut butter and yogurt aren’t favorites of your pup, there are chicken and beef consommé frozen treats, too. But, for confections of the sweet kind, you can see that my two kids are bona fide killers!
