Chicken is a big favorite with our dogs so I decided to devise an easy recipe for a chicken and cheese dog treats. The preparation is very easy since you can use leftover chicken and, start to finish, you can complete with treats in less than an hour.
How to Make Chicken and Cheese Dog Treats
The ingredients list for this recipe is super simple:
shredded, cooked deboned chicken
chicken broth, divided
shredded cheese (I used shredded cheddar but have also used shredded Monterey Jack with the same results)
whole wheat flour
all-purpose flour
Before you get started, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F, and grease two cookie sheets.
The ingredients list is nice and short. You can use whatever cooked chicken you have on hand: white or dark meat. (No bones!)
The next step is to toss the chicken and just 1/2 cup of the chicken broth in a blender or food processor and mix until it’s the consistency of baby food:
Now mix the flours, cheese and chicken/chicken broth mixture in a big bowl:
Start mixing the ingredients and slowly, slowly add a teaspoon of broth at a time until you have dough the right consistency to knead. (The amount of broth you’ll need to add will vary by the moistness of the chicken.)
The dough should be heavy but shouldn’t be too dry (that means you need more broth) or too sticky (that means you need more flour).
Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface and roll it to about 1/4-inch thickness.
If you have a small, round cookie cutter, that works great. I didn’t so I used a small sample glass we’d received years ago on a winery tour when we were on a travel writing assignment in Switzerland:

But I digress! Back to the biscuits…
If you use a mini-glass, just flip it over and press out the biscuits, giving each a little twist as you press down. Make your impressions then pull up the dough around the biscuits; these are now ready to go on a greased cookie sheet.
Take the scraps of dough, re-roll, and cut out some more biscuits.
I decided to get fancy with some of the biscuits; I’d recently seen an article in Martha Stewart Living magazine showing how to make a paw print on the top of the biscuits.
Just indent your index finger to make the large paw pad then use your pinky finger to make four tiny paw pad indentations above it.
It looked so easy when Martha did it…but my biscuits were too small so I was only able to add three paw pads!
Luckily, the dogs didn’t mind a bit 🙂
Just pop your cookie sheets in the oven for half an hour, bake at 350 degrees F., then take them out and allow them to cool completely before refrigerating the treats. Our dogs loved these treats!

Chicken Dog Treats
Your dog will wag for these easy Chicken Dog Treats!
Ingredients
1-1/2 cups shredded, cooked chicken
3/4 cup chicken broth, divided
1/2 cup shredded cheese
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup all-purpose flour
Instructions
Boil skinless, boneless chicken to done; cut into pieces.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Grease two cookie sheets.
Put chicken into blender and blend to baby food consistency. Add broth as needed.
Combine all ingredients in large bowl.
Mix all ingredients then turn out dough on floured surface.
Roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness.
Cut dough into shapes; rework dough scraps and continue cutting.
Place all treats onto cookie sheets so treats are not touching.
Bake for 30 minutes.
Remove from oven and cool completely before serving.
Treats can be refrigerated for 3-5 days or frozen for longer storage.
