56*365: Keep the Horizon High or Low in Your Photo

On this morning’s long hike with Irie and Tiki, I shot these scenic shots of Irie and the horizon, several miles in the distance. The rolling hills in the distance are in the top third of the photo both above and below…

Keep that horizon in the top or bottom third of the frame, whether a horizontal or vertical shot. Most importantly, don’t slice the photo in half by lining the horizon right across the middle of the shot, which is almost an instinctive way to frame the shot. By remembering to move that horizon up or down in the frame, it will make your photo far more interesting.
