Home from BlogPaws West!

What a week it has been! Our days of preparation for BlogPaws were cut short by a flood caused by Tropical Storm Hermine. The creek went down enough to drive across by Thursday morning, though, so John took me to the airport and he stayed home and began what’s going to be a long cleanup process.

BlogPaws West was amazing! I’d say there were about 300 pet bloggers and industry representatives present at the Denver convention. It started Thursday evening and ended last night (although I had to miss the closing reception and leave Saturday evening…our airline tickets were frequent flyer tickets and there were no frequent flyer seats available for Sunday.)

I’m so thankful to have been sponsored by Cesar Canine Cuisine (be sure to follow them on Twitter at @CesarCuisine) and, along with Michelle from My Tail Hurts From Wagging So Much, I took part in some great giveaways both for bloggers attending the conference and those that didn’t get to attend. Our dogs are crazy about Cesar meals and treats (even if they’re about 10 times larger than the target market…but they’re small dogs at heart!)

I’ll be back with news from the conference, lots of photos, notes from the sessions and more but today I’m just hanging out with John and the dogs as we try to access where to start this huge cleanup. We’re just so lucky that our house is intact; many people in this area weren’t so lucky. Tiki and Irie are so happy I’m back home (I have to admit I talked to them on the phone while I was gone) so we’re enjoying spending time together as we look around outside and figure out what to do.

What Mother Nature destroys, she rebuilds. I know we’ll eventually get the downed trees and debris all cleaned up and hauled out of here. In the meantime, though, we’ve been left with a beautiful creek (if you just don’t look over at the banks) now scoured down to the bedrock. On this morning’s walk, the dogs just loved their time in the creek. In true dog fashion, they’re not worried about the near disaster in the past or the cleanup in the future. It’s a beautiful day, and they’re having fun! Once again, I’m reminded how much we have to learn from dogs!
