Hug Your Hound Day

Hug Your Hound Day is an awareness day set aside to squeeze in a little extra time out of our hectic schedules to cuddle our canine companions. Pet parents can show that they hold the idea of the holiday close to their heart by giving their dog a virtual hug through the gift of their undivided attention.

When is Hug Your Hound Day?

Hug Your Hound Day takes place each second Sunday in September.

There’s also a National Hug Your Dog Day!

A Day We Can All Wrap Our Arms Around

From observances of such serious subject matter as shelter pet adoption, spay/neuter awareness, pet theft and the plight of puppy mill dogs to celebrations of silliness like National Dress Up Your Pet Day, Plush Animal Lovers Day and If Pets Had Thumbs Day, there are a plethora of dates on the calendar dedicated to our pals with paws. While we as devotees of dogs may not choose to observe every pet holiday, we can all collectively embrace Hug Your Hound Day!

From Chihuahuas to Chow Chows, all dogs would enjoy a day of play filled with extra treats, a trip to the local dog park or a dog-friendly event or simply acting like a couch potato alongside their forever parent.

If you don’t have a four-legged friend to enfold in your arms on Hug Your Hound Day (or even if you do!), remember that there are dogs at your local shelter who would love to receive some extra attention from a new two-legged friend!
