Actor Harry Lloyd, who has starred in the hit HBO series Game of Thrones, the PBS series Wolf Hall and the Oscar-nominated Steven Hawking biopic The Theory of Everything, has accepted the real life role of a forever pet parent to a shelter puppy.

Currently filming the WGN America series Manhattan in northern New Mexico, the British star recently paid a visit to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society, where he made the decision to cast a Chihuahua who was recovering from knee surgery as his new canine companion, the Santa Fe New Mexican reports.

Now known as Zoey, the pup– who was called Angel during her days at the shelter– is one of more than 5,000 lost, stray, abandoned or injured dogs and cats who will receive comfort and care from the non-profit organization this year. In 2014, the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society found loving homes for 3,211 companion animals.

When the actor returned to the shelter days after the adoption to get Zoey’s stitches removed, staff at the Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society told dog devotees via Facebook: “Harry says Zoey has made a great transition into his life and he is so happy with the sweet girl.”

By adopting from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society, Harry Lloyd has followed in the footsteps of Academy Award winner Shirley MacLaine, who not only welcomed a Jack Russell Terrier from the facility into her heart and home in 2014, but has also helped to raise funds for the shelter by donating autographed items from her wardrobe to the shelter’s resale shops, Look What the Cat Dragged In.
