Best Friends Strut Your Mutt Los Angeles September 6, 2014

Taking steps toward creating a better future for our four-legged friends in need with every step they take, on September 6th pet parents will enjoy a constitutional with their canine companion during the Los Angeles edition of Best Friends Animal Society’s Strut Your Mutt.

Part of a national event held for the benefit of shelters and rescue organizations across the country, Strut Your Mutt Los Angeles is striving to raise $600,000 to help homeless animals in the L.A. area. (Strut You Mutt will also take place in Austin, Texas; Best Friends sanctuary in Kanab, Utah; Houston, Texas; Jacksonville, Florida; D.C. metro; Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota; New York City; Portland, Oregon; Salt Lake City, Utah; San Francisco and St. Louis, Missouri in hopes of raising an overall sum of $2 million.)

Celebrity Spotting

  • Strollers will be in stitches as they lace up their sneakers thanks to the event’s emcees, comediennes Sarah Burns (Drunk History, Life As We Know It, I Love you Man) and Margot Leitman (Late Night with Conan O’Brien , VH1’s Best Week Ever).
  • At the starting line, canine icon (and Best Friends Ambassador) Lassie, The LA Kings Ice Crew and mascot Bailey will put a pep in every walker’s step as they cheer on the participants who are about to embark on a 1.9 mile walk, 2.25 mile walk or 2.25 mile fun run.

Activities

  • Going the extra mile to put the fun in fundraiser, Strut Your Mutt Los Angeles will include an array of Rover-related activities:
  • Canine-themed contest include pet/parent look-a-like, best trick or agility and best costume.
  • Adorable adoptable will take command of the catwalk in the Rescue Runway fashion show.
  • At Ruff & Relax, Rovers can get their unruly manes tamed by Metro Pet Spa while pet parents are pampered with hair styling by Paul Mitchell Schools.
  • PAWdicures by Pussy & Pooch.
  • Mellow out with massages for people or pets at the Belly Rub Hub.
  • Tap into Fido’s inner feelings with the help of pet communicator Sandy Smith.
  • Cheer for the skilled Spots from Los Angeles Area Responsible Pitbull Owners (LARPBO), who will wow the crowd with feats of doggie dexterity.
  • Stretch with Spot in a session of “downward dog yoga.”
  • Get answers to your canine-themed questions at the Ask-A-Vet booth or Ask-A-Trainer booth.
  • Learn more about Best Friends’ mission, win prizes and much more at the Best Friends Save Them All tent.
  • Have the time of your life with your pup after the festival as you watch a 30th anniversary screening of Dirty Dancing thanks to Eat/See/Hear. Prior to the presentation, attendees can enjoy Best Friend Animal Society Ambassador’s music video to her tune “Dare to Love,” which was filmed at Best Friends’ Mission Hills Pet Adoption Center.

When: September 6, 2014 Fun run/walk starts at 5 p.m.; Strut Your Mutt festival takes place from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. ; live music from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.; Dirty Dancing screening from 8:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.
