Last week, we had the opportunity to spend a few days in one of our favorite dog-friendly destinations: Port Aransas! We’d last traveled to Port A in July, our first trip back since Hurricane Harvey. The town was already looking great in July, but on this trip we saw even more progress as businesses reopen and welcome more visitors.

Four of John’s relatives live in a South Texas nursing home, so we spent the first day visiting with them, arriving fairly late into Port Aransas aboard the ferry. If you’ve never been to Port Aransas, it’s a free ride aboard ferries operated by the Texas Department of Transportation:
Our home base for this stay, just like our last, was The Beachcomber, a small property with about a dozen rooms just a block from the beach. Barli and Tiki were excited as soon as we drove up, and they headed straight for “their” room, the same one we stayed in last time, as soon as we stepped out. They instantly made themselves right at home!
Our first stop was at Stingrays, which, like many Port Aransas restaurants, closes mid-week during off season, so we wanted to be sure to catch them on Monday to start our three-night trip off with a plate of fried shrimp:
Each morning we started the day with breakfast tacos from Whataburger (and coffee for John from Coffee Waves), enjoyed down at the South Jetty to watch for dolphins, playing in the ship channel as the ships came by:
From there, the days were spent doing some beachcombing:
…playing in the waves…
…strolling the beach…
…and watching the birds…
And, since our visit coincided with Halloween, we even had the chance to visit the Sand Pumpkin Patch!
Thanks for another great, dog-friendly trip, Port Aransas!
