My Dog Spins and Tangles Her Leash

I have a 9.3-pound Yorki-Poo named Bunny. Her foot on her right back leg is missing and she was born that way. She is one of those dogs that likes to spin when she gets excited.

I can barely get her harness and leash on her because of this, and I can never attach her leash to her collar because she spins so much she gets all tangled and the leash gets wrapped around her leg with the missing foot.

I’ve been using a harness that has a clip on ring that turns with her and I have to make sure there is no slack in the leash. I have another dog that I walk at the same time so it’s rather difficult to do sometimes. I was wondering if your harness and leash would solve this problem and if you had a video of someone with a spinning dog that uses it. Thanks, Kelly

Hi Kelly,

Bunny sounds adorable and so brave. The way I would work with Bunny’s spinning is by kneeling down on the floor and placing her between your knees. This will give her a safer boundary and less space to spin. Then I would place one hand on her chest and one hand on her mid-back to provide her with a better sense of her body in such an excited state.

Focus on relaxing and keeping your breathing even and calm transmitting that energy to Bunny. It may take a few minutes the first time as she has been so used to expelling her energy instead of learning to harness it.

Once she is calm, then place the harness of her head relaxing more as you go so that she picks up the energy of calm and peace.

Try this a few times and be consistent and you will see some great results.

The Walk In Sync™ System will provide Bunny a with a comfortable way to get used to the size of her body and give her clear boundaries that help her be excited and harness her energy and leave you both less dizzy.  Paws Up! Alecia
